Creaking Door

The moon with effort, peeks between
The dark and drifting clouds,
To bring to life the shadows,
Hidden in the darkened shrouds.

The chilling breeze, moans through the trees
While leaves are tossed and blown,
And somewhere in the distance,
Cries a wolf, that’s all alone.

And then a noise invades the night,
A sound I’ve heard before,
And all at once the terror strikes;
I know what lies in store.

Then with the caution fear instills,
The door moves with a creak,
Exposing scary children,
Who are shouting Trick-or-Treat.

Yes, it’s that time of year my friends,
With scary costumes seen,
And children’s smiles and “thank you” heard
It’s surely Halloween.
